Squaw Creek Trail Dedication Event
Date: Saturday, June 7
Time: 11:30 a.m.
Where: Squaw Creek Trailhead, off of Squaw Valley Road
Cost: FREE
Join in a variety of trail adventures and a trailhead feast at the Mt. Shasta Trail Association’s (MSTA) dedication ceremony of the newly completed scenic trail along Squaw Valley Creek below McCloud. Considering the McCloud Watershed Council’s commitment to watershed appreciation and preservation related to Squaw Valley Creek, we are delighted with the opportunity to actively support this event.

Participants will meet at the trailhead at 11:30 am, where a short dedication ceremony will commence. A buffet lunch with drinks will be provided from noon to 1pm.  Afterwards, a series of hikes are possible: a guided photography hike, a guided botany hike, a guided geology hike or self-guided hikes anywhere in the area, including on sections of the PCT that cross the Squaw Valley Creek trail. Maps will be provided; please pack water.

Directions to the trailhead: From Mt. Shasta, take Hwy 89 to the Central McCloud exit and turn south (right) on Squaw Valley Road. Follow for 5.9 miles and turn right onto a dirt road marked for Squaw Valley Creek Trail and the Pacific Crest trail. Go three miles and park in the lot just beyond the concrete bridge spanning Squaw Valley Creek.
See the Mt. Shasta Herald article in May 28’s edition, in the Area News section, page 7, for more details, or call Joe Wirth (926-2858) or Mark Gibson (926-5966).
