About Us

The McCloud Watershed Council is a non-profit organization of residents and business owners in McCloud, northern California. Our supporters represent every aspect of McCloud community life, from ex-mill workers to telecommuters, from retirees to high school students. We are currently funded through individual donations made by our local and regional supporters. We have come together to provide a community voice on issues that affect the greater McCloud watershed.

Our Mission
To support a sustainable community and protect natural resources by providing advocacy and stewardship for the greater McCloud River watershed.

The Nestlé Sale
In 2003, the sale of McCloud's water to the Swiss multinational, Nestlé, was approved by the McCloud Community Services District's Board of Directors. There was little effort made by Nestlé or the Service District to gain community approval for the sale or to take community input on the contract.

One of our objectives is to encourage continued public debate about this decision and to clearly communicate the wishes of McCloud to the Siskiyou County Board of Supervisors and the McCloud Services District Board members. We are also looking for economic alternatives to Nestlé that bring living wage employment and long-term health to the community -- without giving away the rights to our town's water for the next 100 years.
